Used in conjunction with photo reading, breakthrough rapid reading is a process that focuses on quickly absorbing certain passages of a text in greater detail. This process helps the reader to target in on the most important points after they have completed the photo reading and carried out mind mapping techniques to absorb details of the book. Rapid reading is done by combining several more widely recognised techniques of speed reading, using them as an extension to photo reading a book. The purpose of this is to deepen the readers understanding of a given subject and increase their overall comprehension of the topic being covered.

Photo reading and rapid reading

Rapid reading is taught as an extension to commercially offered photo reading programs. The photo reading process aims to use a range of subconscious learning techniques, helping readers develop speeds of up to 25,000 words per minute. This process involves the reader developing a sense of the structure and content of the book. Once they have done this, the reader then quickly skims pages, glancing over them for no more than a few seconds at the time.  This relies on peripheral vision and committing the contents to memory in a photographic manner.

Rapid reading builds upon this by assisting the reader to develop more focussed reading skills to use when they reach passages of particular importance. Those passages which need to be understood in greater detail are the ones that the user then reads more closely, to ensure they have a deeper understanding of a particular page, chapter or passage in the book.
